‘The Church exists by mission, just as a fire exists by burning’.
We are all privileged to play our part in the mission of God, wherever God has placed us, so join in. To participate in mission is to participate in the movement of God’s love toward people, since God is a fountain of sending love.
‘As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you’ is the mandate Jesus has given us. If we are followers of Jesus, we shall by definition be those who are sent by him. We strongly advocate everyone being a committed contributor to the life of a local church, yet we recognise some churches provide a greater encouragement for individuals to be all Jesus Christ calls them to be in their own context and circumstances, than others. Seventy-two exists to be a network and a catalyst for us all to be those missional disciples we are called to be.
Igniting Mission Articles and Resources
Needed: Soft eyes for the way ahead
I’m not saying I’m addicted to watching TV crime and detective series, but Morse, Shetland, Endeavour, Lewis, Wallender, Midsomer Murders, etc. means the higher number channels are most frequently turned on in our house. I’ve never watched The Wire, apparently a US...
Learning to be missional from Postman Pat
If I say ‘Postman Pat’, I would guess that most of you would find that a certain tune starts to wander through your brain and you think wistfully of a man, with a rather oversized head, who spends his time driving round Greendale in his little red van with Jess his...
Catalysts for Mission
Welcome on board! You may be receiving our Seventy-two monthly update for the very first time, as we’ve welcomed a good number of new people resulting from conversations on the Seventy-two stand at Spring Harvest Minehead. Alternatively, you might already be receiving...
Animation and Challenges
I used to work as a stop motion animator for children’s TV. The thing I loved most about that job was that although I worked closely with a small team, once the shot was set up and lit, I was left alone inside a tent of black curtains to get on with my work in peace....
Re-usable Coffee Cups
Question: How can you help save the environment, save yourself some money … and enjoy being involved in the mission of God … and all at the same time? Answer: By taking someone out for a coffee and using our Seventy-two re-usable coffee cups. Challenge 1: Saving the...
Spring is upon us….
Spring is upon us, although I’m still needing to scrape ice off my car windscreen some mornings. We often talk about ‘signs of spring’ and right now, living in the countryside as I do, I can see them all around me: flowers, birds, hedgerows are all displaying signs...
Loitering with intent
I had a chat with the local Anglican Mission worker yesterday in his last week before moving into a new role. Ever since he arrived I've found him to be a kindred spirit. One of the things that united us was how we engaged with community, but what I call Incarnating...
