Igniting Mission

‘The Church exists by mission, just as a fire exists by burning’.

We are all privileged to play our part in the mission of God, wherever God has placed us, so join in. To participate in mission is to participate in the movement of God’s love toward people, since God is a fountain of sending love.

‘As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you’ is the mandate Jesus has given us. If we are followers of Jesus, we shall by definition be those who are sent by him. We strongly advocate everyone being a committed contributor to the life of a local church, yet we recognise some churches provide a greater encouragement for individuals to be all Jesus Christ calls them to be in their own context and circumstances, than others. Seventy-two exists to be a network and a catalyst for us all to be those missional disciples we are called to be.

Getting Caught Up In God’s Mission

Getting Caught Up In God’s Mission

Jesus modelled Christian mission into the world for us, by going out and walking among the people. When Jesus did that, incredible things happened for God’s kingdom. Read here how one church community is following in his footsteps by embracing chaplaincy; going where...

When The Rubber Hits The Road

When The Rubber Hits The Road

As the year draws to a close once more, yet again I’m confronted with the painful fact that another year has gone by when not one person in my family, in my friendship group or in my neighbourhood has turned to Jesus. Another year when it seems like those who once...

Where Would You Be?

Where Would You Be?

A few months ago we went for a family holiday in Cyprus. As parents of a two year old, we thought it best to go for the all-inclusive package holiday option, which would not be our natural choice. The resort was lovely and we had a great time. However, being a mostly...

What Bette Davis Taught Me About Mission

What Bette Davis Taught Me About Mission

On a rare wet day this summer, my husband and I were staying in an Airbnb in Ironbridge. To while away the evening we picked up a DVD for 49p in a charity shop. The film was Mr Skeffington starring Bette Davis and Claude Rains, who were both nominated for Oscars for...

Investing In Friendship For The Long Haul

Investing In Friendship For The Long Haul

Take a look at the beginnings of Luke chapters 9 and 10. Essentially, they’re parallel texts, the details vary slightly here and there … but the only major difference is a number. From chapter nine where Jesus calls the twelve together in order to send them out into...

Scripture Union: Mission Possible

Scripture Union: Mission Possible

From time to time we like to share with you inspiring research which we believe could have a valuable impact in helping us all as we find our way in God's mission to make disciples. One such example is the recent Scripture Union research report 'Mission Possible'. The...

Christmas Is Coming!

Christmas Is Coming!

As a local church minister Christmas haunted me. Not because I don’t like Christmas, I do, but because it is one of the most strategic missional opportunities in the year and at the same time one of the most stressful. I would dread the moment when that ‘well...

Faith Sharer: Carry On

Faith Sharer: Carry On

“Jesus told them a story. A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. So they organised a conference to help them better understand why this happened. Some argued that there needed to be...

Every space is a place – even church

Every space is a place – even church

There's no denying that third spaces are fantastic places and opportunities to share God's love. I've had the joy of praying for (and with) an atheist at my kitchen table, giving my testimony to a fellow dog walker (he asked!), and sitting with one of God's prodigal...
